San Bernardino’s county-wide drone policy helps to prevent unauthorized drone flights and includes detailed directives and standard operating procedures customized for and relevant to each County department.
(May 7, 2023 – San Bernardino – The UAS Center at SBD is pleased to announce that the comprehensive drone policy developed by them was approved by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on May 23, 2023.
“The County of San Bernardino Board of Supervisors has demonstrated strong leadership by adopting an overarching drone policy, and the UAS Center at SBD is proud to have developed that policy for them through a detailed and collaborative process. To our knowledge, San Bernardino County is the first county in the nation to formally adopt a comprehensive drone policy,” states Terry Parisher, Technical Advisor, UAS Center at SBD. “We look forward to now expanding these efforts in support of other counties across the United States.”
“Adoption of a standardized county-wide drone policy is important for many reasons,” states Dawn Rowe, Chair of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. “This policy promotes safe and responsible drone usage for the benefit of the whole region. It encourages cooperation among the County’s agencies to optimize efficient use of resources, which is especially critical considering the drone industry’s rapid innovation.”

About the UAS Center at SBD (www.uascentersbd.com): Established as an enterprise fund under the Inland Valley Development Agency in San Bernardino, California, the UAS Center at SBD serves as a test and demonstration site for drone technology companies as well as government and academic research institutions. The Center provides drone pilot training for public and private sector entities as well as consulting on standardization and integration of drone technology into their operations. The Center also cooperates with public and private sector entities on workforce development.
